Between April and June 2025, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) quietly rolled out a federal and provincial tax payment deferral for businesses. This meant certain late payments would not accrue interest or penalties — but only until June 30, 2025.
⏳ What Was Deferred?
CRA offered interest relief on the following if paid before the June 30 deadline:
GST/HST remittances
Corporate income taxes (T2)
Certain instalment payments
This was a temporary break aimed at supporting small businesses still recovering from post-pandemic impacts and rising costs.
📅 What Happens Now?
As of July 1, 2025, interest and penalties are fully back in effect. If you:
Missed the June 30 deadline
Were unaware of the deferral
Are currently behind on GST/HST or corporate tax…
👉 You may now be accruing interest and/or penalties.
